Newcrest's Lihir Island operation is located 900kms north-east of Port Moresby, in the New Ireland Province. The site is one of the world's largest gold mines and processing facilities, consisting of 3 linked open pits - Minifie, Lienetz and Kapit. We have a large team of over 4,000 people working in this significant operation.

The world-class Newcrest Mining Limited, Lihir operation is located on the tropical island of Lihir and provides residents with a peaceful and secure lifestyle. Fly-in, Fly-out residents are accommodated in well-appointed camps which includes full dining, laundry, and a modern medical centre. We are currently seeking suitably qualified and highly motivated candidates for the following position: 

Senior Geothermal Reservoir Engineer 

Reporting to the Superintendent Geothermal the primary purpose of the Senior Geothermal Reservoir Engineer is to lead the Geothermal Reservoir Engineering team to provide input to geothermal resource management at Lihir. This role will allow you to define, execute and report results from completion tests while providing input to the development of the conceptual model of the steam field. 

The successful applicant will get an opportunity to deliver and maintain an updated calibrated numerical model of the geothermal resource. 

Key elements of the role include: 

• Plan programs for the routine well testing of steam flow, temperature and pressure and maintain a database of key data.
• Interpret the results of well measurements and report monthly production characteristics of the steam field.
• Manage capital projects.
• Implement the Safety Improvement Program for the Geothermal Section ensuring the continuous improvement of safety best practice in line with NML- Lihir safety policies and procedures.
• Manage the work of the Geothermal Reservoir Engineering team by setting priorities to ensure that targets are met. 

To be the successful applicant you must be able to demonstrate a degree qualification in Geothermal Engineering, Geology, Engineering or a related discipline and have an number of years experience in a reservoir engineering role in a geothermal production field, with strong knowledge of well testing, numerical modelling and production well drilling. 

You will posses a sound awareness of operational safety issues and an excellent personal safety record coupled with a high degree of competency in computer applications including MS Excel, Access and Project, knowledge of numerical modelling software, e.g. Tough2; Geological/reservoir engineering modelling software, e.g. Surfer, Leapfrog, Minesight, Vulcan or Datamine; Cost control and finance systems, e.g. MIMS, Ellipse or SAP. 

Your enthusiasm, self-motivation and the ability to maintain direction and achieve work objectives with minimal supervision will be held in high regard along with your developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills in English. A current Class 6 Drivers Licence will also be looked upon favourably. 

The Senior Geothermal Reservoir Engineer is a vital role for Lihir and requires a mature, reliable and hard working person who is able to work safely and responsibly at all times. Applicants must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment.
