Description
Cliffs Natural Resources are seeking two experienced and qualified Project Geologists to join the Resource Evaluation team, based at the Windarling Iron Ore project. One position will be a permanent role whilst the other vacancy is for a 12 month fixed term contract. The role of Project Geologist will allow you to develop your professional career in a varied and interesting environment where your skills and knowledge will be challenged and extended. The Project Geologist is an integral role within a small team which brings value to our operations through effective planning, supervising and conducting of exploration activities that are in line with Cliffs Natural Resources objectives within the company’s tenements and exploration projects.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
•Following and complying with all Cliffs Natural Resources Safety, Environmental and Company systems/policies/procedures at all times and assist in the development of systems/policies/procedures;
•Conducting regular safety inspections/audits, Safe Act Observations and Job Safety Assessments as well as document safety and work procedure;
•Supervising and conducting field exploration activities such as mapping, sampling, drilling and drill sampling logging as well as participating in the field supervision of geophysical, heritage and botanical surveys;
•Supervising all earthmoving activities including drill pad construction, access tracks construction and rehabilitation works;
•Assisting in the interpretation of geological data, including development of cross sections and plans showing geological interpretations of drilling results.
•Leading the collation, maintenance and validation of all exploration data;
•Compilation of all statutory and internal company or Joint Venture reports.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:
•Strong sense of safety and teamwork and the ability to proactively solve problems as well as demonstrate strong leadership skills;
•Strong computing skills including all MS Office applications, MapInfo, Micromine and field PDA's;
•Well developed field skills such as mapping/sampling and drill rig supervision and drill sample logging;
•Well developed drill campaign planning and execution skills;
•Knowledge of tenement conditions and reporting standards;
•Enthusiastic and flexible and willing to learn and adapt to each working environment;
•The ability to recognise and suggest and implement solutions/actions to problems;
•The ability to communicate effectively within all levels within the Company and supervise junior staff and contractors;
•Ability to work effectively in small teams and contribute to the wider Resource Development team;
•High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all matters;
•Current Western Australian Drivers License.
The successful candidate will need to be Bachelor degree qualified in Geology or Geoscience from a recognised institution. To be a successful contributor in this integral role you will need to have experience in a similar role or a junior Exploration Geologist position.
