SENIOR ENGINEER I
Plans and conducts independent work within a global business unit
requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and
adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises
new approaches to solving problems.
Working knowledge of precedents in the specialty area, the principles
and practices of related technical areas and of coordinating work with
other technical disciplines.
Understands the standard engineering work planning, scheduling and cost
estimating, and conducts independent work requiring judgment in the
application of engineering techniques. Normally uses conventional
approaches to technical problems encountered.
Provides technical direction and assigns work to engineers, designers,
and drafters who assist on specific assignments.
Position Duties/Responsibilities
The Senior Electrical Engineer shall report to the Lead Electrical
Engineer and direct small teams of electrical engineers and designers. In an interface role the Senior Electrical Engineer shall coordinate design, material and tie-ins for particular services across multiple units and contractors.
The Senior Electrical Engineer's responsibilities shall encompass the design and specification of
electrical systems and equipment including:
HV, MV and LV switchgear
Transformers
Power Generators
Motors
Variable Speed Drives
UPSs
Cabling
Design of electrical power systems
Power Systems Analysis utilising ETAP software
Electrical Network Control and monitoring systems
Candidates will be experienced in working with electrical
equipment/material vendors to specify, evaluate technical bids and
reviewing vendor documentation for the full range of electrical
equipment/materials required for projects.
Key Technical skills:
Must possess detailed knowledge of HV, MV & LV switchgear, transformers,
generators, motors, power system analysis, electrical protection
systems, area classification and the selection of electrical
equipment/materials for use in hazardous areas.
Candidate must be familiar with European and American Standards (e.g.
IEC, ANSI, NEMA, API, etc) and their application as well as industry
trends and their likely impacts.
The Senior Electrical Engineer must be computer literate with a range of office automation
tools (e.g. Excel, Access, Power-Point etc) and experienced in power
system analysis and protective relaying tools (e.g. ETAP, ETAP Star,
etc).
Position Skills:
Electrical Engineering- Masters or Honours degree
Professional Engineer- Chartered Eng or equivalent
Other Remarks/Qualifications:
Opportunities for international travel/assignment e.g. Mumbai. Candidates should have the right to work in the UK and some of the positions will require the candidate to transition overseas later in 2011. Other positions are primarily London based but may require to work overseas as the work dictates in the long term.
