Newcrest is currently searching for a specialist Process Control Metallurgist to support its Lihir operation over the next year, extending to other Newcrest sites into the future. Reporting to the Senior Metallurgical Advisor - Process Control, this new role is required to provide process control support for the commissioning and optimisation of new and existing processing plant at Lihir. This includes a new fourth autoclave and associated equipment, new grinding mills, and future installation of large flotation cells and VTM3000 Vertimills.
The secondment is scheduled to be of a minimum of 1 year Fly In Fly Out with our Lihir metallurgical teams. A key focus will be on the rapid stabilisation and optimisation of the new and existing processing equipment through the implementation of appropriate process control. The successful applicant will also play a proactive role in improving throughput and recovery, working closely with the site metallurgical, operations and engineering teams.
Technical Accountabilities
- Working knowledge of minerals processing and gold extraction processing
- Working knowledge of autoclave processing
- Provide process control support
- Train and mentor site based personnel
- Work with and utilise the existing DCS support team
- Utilises technical support from external consultants as and when required
- An active involvement in processing plant commissioning tasks

Past experience with the control of mineral processing plants is desirable. Ideally you will have a number of years experience at a senior level and carry a tertiary qualification in Metallurgy, Mineral or Chemical Engineering or a related discipline; proven history within a Mineral Processing environment with plant commissioning or optimisation.
